Technical Manager - Hard goods

Our Client, a leading supplier and manufacturer of wooded toys and games has a vacancy for a Technical Manager to join their team.

Role Purpose:

Manage and deliver product compliance and quality assurance for internal and retailer requirements

Manage Technical Department

  • Direct the day-to-day work for the technical team based in China and the UK.

  • Set-up and manage efficient processes and systems for testing and inspections for the team

  • Build and manage a technical tracking system for the team and train stakeholders on best practices

  • Manage and maintain the technical file system for all products, in collaboration with the Senior Technologists

  • Create a compliance culture within the team that supports quick and accurate action and works on more efficient ways of delivering

  • Ensure department is connected internally and externally with regular and meaningful colleague and client meetings

  • Ensure the team provides daily support to internal departments in all areas of the technical process

  • Establish and maintain a network of working relationships with the technical community, including testing agencies, for yourself and the team

  • Manage and ensure the department is working to tirelessly support and improve its sustainability efforts within the company

Product Safety Compliance

  • Serve as the company compliance expert and provide guidance to internal departments on all applicable legal standards and directives

  • Build expertise on worldwide safety & legal requirements for both packaging and products

  • Work closely with PD team and sales account managers during early-stage development, to ensure product specifications can meet required safety standards

  • Advise on compliance labelling and packaging warnings and approve all final artwork

  • Review and sign off on all legal compliance documents

  • Review all retailer manuals and action compliance requirements

  • Oversee third party safety testing requirements with FE team and collaborate with Tech Manager on schedules, filing system, costs, etc…

  • Understand risk assessment mandates for components, products, and packaging, and complete and upload relevant forms

  • Use and improve compliance templates in collaboration with the technical team

  • Maintain technical files for all products, with the support of the technical team

Quality Assurance

  • Collaborate with the production team to review and establish quality standards for the Client’s Catalogue products

  • Understand retailer quality standards for Bespoke products and communicate those standards internally ensuring factories are informed

  • Review internal factory product inspections and flag any areas of concern to the relevant colleagues

  • Collaborate with internal teams to address any product defects and implement corrective actions plans with

Production

  • Work with the UK warehouse to implement incoming QC/QA plan

  • Manage the customer complaints process ensuring that resolutions to the individual complaint are actioned and any required product improvements for the future are made

  • Build knowledge of current and potential new materials to review function and action user trials when required

  • Constantly work to review product quality and function so as to act as a senior champion for product improvement for the business
