Garment Technologist - Men's and Womenswear

We are looking for a garment technologist with a passion for creating beautifully soft performance wear that minimises its impact on the planet. This is not your average tech role. Our Client has set itself the ambitious goal to be impact positive by 2030. To achieve this goal they need to reduce their impact at every stage of the product manufacture whilst maintaining the Brand’s high quality.

In addition to the day-to-day responsibilities you would expect, you’ll have the opportunity to work on pioneering research projects and to be part of a technical team that is constantly innovating to change the way clothing is made.

About the role – what you’ll be responsible for:

  • A unique opportunity for a creatively minded technologist, you’ll get the chance to innovate and explore both sustainability & performance within fabric and product development.

  • You’ll work very closely with the rest of the product team to bring together the entire range for each season in line with the critical path, managing the product development cycle and improving processes where needed to make things more efficient.

  • Analysing returns and feedback information and driving constant improvements to fit, quality & consistency. You’ll be shaping strategies to help us continue to delight customers and reduce return rates.

  • Our Client is in the process of implementing a new testing manual and protocol with their supply base. This will be one of the key projects so experience with 3rd party testing is essential.

  • Coordinating and distributing the garment technologist workload between yourself and the junior technologist whilst sharing your knowledge and supporting their progression and development.

  • Maintain constant communication with the supplier base and continue to build strong partnerships with them.

  • Together with the rest of the product team, you’ll constantly work to reduce the negative impacts of the Client’s products in line with their sustainability strategy, without compromising product quality. This is an opportunity to make a real difference using your creative thinking and technical expertise.

  • Occasional trips within the UK and overseas may also be required.

Skills Required:

  • A sound knowledge of garment construction & fit across multiple product areas.

  • A solid understanding of fabric construction & performance.

  • A proven track record of friendly, efficient and collaborative communication with overseas suppliers.

  • Experience in leading and developing junior team members.

  • Knowledge and experience of reviewing 3rd party test reports. The ability and confidence to contribute to decisions on commerciality & risk along with the Senior Buyer and Technical Manager.

Desirable:

A good understanding of chemical compliance and experience in working with suppliers to implement MRSL/RSLs, improve chemical management and reduce emissions.

Experience in working with mills to develop innovative performance and/or low impact fabrics.
