We have a hybrid role for a Product Developer, to work with a leading design studio . Lovely company, flexible, varied role and hybrid working allowed. I we are looking for candidates from a design background but technologists with a flair for design would be suitable.
Purpose of the role
To support the Creative Director and team in the design, development and delivery of effective solutions. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to manage commercial constraints and will be confident to negotiate costs. Previous industry experience is essential for success in this role as is a “can do” attitude.
Key responsibilities include:
• Assisting the designers and technical team with the development of all new product styles this includes sourcing, construction, sizing & factory liaison
• Executing the development process in a timely manner for all products and issuing factories with accurate and clear information as well as target prices
• Excellent knowledge of fabrics, trims, print design and accessories as per customer specifications, able to negotiate and liaise with suppliers
• Sourcing fabrics & trims with Creative Director including trips to fabric fairs & PV
• Communicate with factories to ensure minimum lead times are met and quality standards adhered to, Monitor samples and flag up any delays or queries
• Good grasp of specs, (Particularly BOM/Sizing & QC) garment construction and knowledge of factory process
• Ensure the product is in line with the companies target margin and expected retail price without compromising the brands quality standards
• With Production giving clear instructions to the factories and ensure the samples are made to specifications
• With Production & Creative Director manage the critical path from initial concept through to bulk samples
Essential attributes include
Preference given to candidates with a formal design training, who are eager to apply that in a commercial environment, although product developers from a technical background and a flair for design will be considered.
· Degree education with relevant experience in the field
· A sound knowledge of design and garment production
· Works well under pressure, flexible and happy to become involved in a number of wide ranging projects
· Passionate about garments and their details
· Outstanding interpersonal skills, be great at client and supplier liaison
· Advanced level user of relevant adobe software including: Affinity, In-design, Photoshop, illustrator, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
· Passionate interest in the value of design, particularly applied to everyday practical problems
· Fast, reliable, accurate
· Excellent verbal and written English
