Product Developer / Buyer

We’re hiring a Product Developer / Buyer to join an innovative and fast-growing start-up that’s cleaning up the period industry - focusing on plastic waste, harsh chemicals & period shame.

Our Client is certified B Corp and a Carbon Neutral Plus brand, demonstrating that they meet the highest environmental and ethical standards.

The Brand is all about innovation and sustainability + profitability and are looking to recruit someone to help improve existing products on the market.

This is a role for someone who loves to get deep into customer data and draw out trends and opportunities for product improvements.

Our Client is at an exciting juncture, with an expanding product portfolio and excellent innovation and design capabilities. They are looking for someone to help refine and improve the existing range, ensuring that it evolves alongside new launches. This person will be critical to developing the processes to ensure our products continue to perform well.

Reporting directly to our New Product Development Manager, as the Product Development / Buyer you'll be integral to growing and developing the product team and the product offering.

You'll be specifically responsible for broadening out the existing product range. You will:

  • Collaborate with the operations team to improve production outcomes and margin, as well as continuously updating the design of products to feed through into our supply chain.

  • Manage customer insight and focus group sessions with the Client’s community, identifying potential areas of improvement.

  • Work closely with our external designers to improve and adapt current design and materials based on customer feedback.

  • Engage with innovative suppliers to ensure materials used are the best in class for performance and sustainability.

  • Negotiate with suppliers to reach cost effective products that meet our customer’s needs.

  • Work alongside the marketing team to feedback design and performance improvements to ensure the product improvements are shared with the customers.

  • Support the NPD Manager with roadmap planning and implementing existing product development.

Skills required

We’re looking for an energetic Product Developer who’s up for the challenge of making our Client’s products better than the best. This is an opportunity for a driven and ambitious person who cares deeply about the fate of our planet and is interested in gaining real-life, hands-on experience in a dynamic start-up environment. It will be varied, fast-paced, and hugely rewarding.

Please don’t be put off if you don’t meet all of the below but the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Product obsessed

  • You love products - their form and function - and you’re single-minded in making sure that they’re as good as they can be.

Experience

  • You have a textile or clothing background, knowledge of garment construction and fitting and manufacturing methods and experience working with large Far East suppliers.

Problem solver

  • You aren’t afraid to tackle obstacles head on and present potential solutions, being able to spot a bad idea as quickly as a good one.

Multi-disciplined

  • You’re just as comfortable getting deep into data as you are chatting with customers face to face in focus groups and interviews.

Analytical

  • You can get deep into customer data and draw out trends and opportunities for product development.

Project Management

  • You have experience juggling multiple projects, and stakeholders and are able to autonomously meet project timelines and deadlines.

Technical Know-How

  • You have experience working with product designers, manufacturers and suppliers and you’re able to pull all those functions together.

Organised & self-motivated

  • You’re a do-er and love rolling up your sleeves and getting things done. You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset

  • You enjoy creatively solving open-ended problems and know how to reach out to find answers.
