Industrial Sewing Machine Engineer

Our Client, a leading manufacturer of luxury leather accessories has an opening for a Machine Engineer to join their team. The role would suit either an experienced Machine Engineer or an Apprentice with some previous experience in machine maintenance and an enthusiasm to learn a new skill.

Job role:

Responsible for ensuring the wide range of maintenance tasks are carried out using the most effective and efficient processes, using knowledge and technical ability to complete the tasks allocated to maintain production flow.

Regularly communicating actions and the progress of tasks undertaken. Working on tasks autonomously using own initiative and skills to best suit the work to be undertaken. 

Machine Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Perform checking, repairing, servicing and maintenance on machinery, equipment, systems and infrastructures to ensure machinery and equipment runs smoothly and reliably in line with company standards and procedures.

  • Utilise tools, knowledge and experience to undertake tasks with effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Communicate actions to relevant stakeholders including, Chief Engineer, Room Managers and Machine Operators; highlighting any areas of concern that could result in ongoing operational issues.

  • To maintain a safe and clean work environment.

  • Any other duties as may be assigned to meet the varying needs of the business.

  • Operate in accordance with Company Policy, Procedures and legislative requirements.

Knowledge and Skills required:

  • You will have knowledge and experience of working with and repairing industrial sewing machine brands such as Pfaff, Global, Duerkopp Adler and Brother.

  • Ideally, the applicant will have specific knowledge of working in the textiles, clothing or footwear industry and be familiar with machine processes and configurations such as, single and twin needles on both post and flat machines, under trimming and whipping machines.

  • Demonstrable experience with processes such as French binding, beading, perforating, eye letting and lacing would be an advantage but not essential.

  • The ability to communicate at all levels in a clear and professional manner

  • A good understanding of electrical, mechanical and pneumatic systems would be advantageous

  • Above all, a drive and determination to overcome challenges and gain personal satisfaction in completing them is vital.

  • Experience in a similar role would be an advantage
