Junior Garment Technologist

12 Month Maternity cover.

We have an opportunity for a Junior Garment Technologist to join a leading Retailer to fill a vacancy for a 12 month Maternity cover. Candidates from any Garment Technology discipline will be considered.

You will provide technical support to deliver quality, innovation, safety, compliance and ethics that differentiate the Client from the High Street. This is a one year fixed term contract , Anticipated start date March 2020 ending March 2021.

About the role:

• Take full technical responsibility for a range or department and if applicable providing support to the Technology team across the Department acting on behalf of the Technologist to represent the Client externally and the Department internally

• Deliver the department/range innovation strategy driving commercial customer focused benefit

• Conduct day to day activities (e.g. risk analysis, due diligence testing, wearer trials, firewall checks) to protect the department from product safety, compliance and ethical issues in line with legislation and policy

• Work independently as appropriate to the range/department to deliver clear specifications on Design Tech packs to include fit, fabric quality, made well standards, construction & components in adherence with Environmental Policy

• Responsible for managing the first fit approval and contract seal processes, working in collaboration with technical counterparts in Sourcing Offices as part of a global team

• Approve fabric / raw materials ensuring all quality & innovation is embedded within the fabric/raw material strategy for the department

• Responsible for signing off all relevant product information and technical documentation (legal, testing, safety) at contract seal

• Support the delivery of business Sustainability requirements into the department and BU in conjunction with buying teams, managing the collation of information and producing reports where appropriate

• Perform product benchmarking and keep informed of key trends and industry developments to build expertise

• Monitor the voice of the customer around quality & fit and build into ongoing product development strategy.

• Maintain integrity of product data within the department on the Client’s systems, working with sourcing offices to ensure suppliers are compliant in providing complete and accurate information as required to enable reporting

• In the event of a quality failure manage and co-ordinate results and actions to reach a satisfactory outcome which does not jeopardise the brand

• Build strong relationships within the UK Buying Departments and also globally with counterparts in Sourcing Offices and adhering to agreed ways of working and helping to develop global best practice within the product area

• Conduct knowledge to share, product/fit training to aid store colleagues to enable them sell more effectively

About you:

• Ability to learn new technical skills, absorb information and manage own personal development

• Excellent communication skills within Technical Function, Design and Buying, Supply Base and Global Sourcing Offices

• Ability to interpret Departmental Strategy and provide insights based on technical knowledge

• Multi tasked orientated working to tight deadlines, understanding when to take decisions and when to seek guidance

• To be able to analyse data and drive insights to support strategic thinking

• Knowledge and experience of creating product specifications

• Ability to manage departmental data and leverage Client’s systems to enable strategic reporting

• Ability to work across multiple sourcing models (Client designed, Supplier designed)
