Role Purpose:
Build your technical skills and practical experience of garment development to support a growing tech team in an established, design-led fashion business renowned for quality, innovation and on-trend-clothing across multi-product menswear and womenswear.
Role KPIs:
Reporting directly to the Head of Technical, you will work alongside and shadow a Garment Technician (GT) on a day-to-day basis, and:
Product evaluation/preparation:
• Be responsible for the incoming fit and production samples, unboxing / steaming / photographing and tagging all incoming samples and handing these over to the relevant GT for them to measure and process the style
• Assist your GT in measuring incoming fit and production samples – clearly following the sample spec submitted to the factory and recording all new measurements and highlighting any issues
• Assist your GT in checking the quality of all incoming samples, identifying any ‘make’ issues and ensuring these are recorded visually and in writing on the fit sample workbooks.
Customer involvement:
• On a daily basis, assist your GT in preparing high quality samples for customer fit meetings, ensuring these are ready for dispatch on time and packaged accurately for the courier
• Attend customer fit meetings, where required, with your GT
• Under direction, assist with preparing any associated adjustments resulting from the fit meetings ready to communicate to the relevant factory.
Testing and production management:
• Assist your GT in preparing testing requirements on customer orders as requested and send to the factories
• In addition, support your GT by chasing incoming test reports, reading all incoming reports and highlighting any issues you identify to your them
• Chase up customer fit and production samples for your GT, ensuring everything runs on time, as dictated by the company’s Critical Path (order development process)
• Crucially, on a daily basis, assist your GT in updating the Tech aspects of the Production section of the Critical Path for all your GT’s orders, to ensure all deadlines are met to prevent any late delivery dates
• Attend a weekly meeting with the Production team to discuss Critical Path dates and identify any issues / late delivery problems with pending orders and how to resolve.
Candidate profile:
• Enthusiastic graduate with a technical fashion degree. Some knitwear experience would be an advantage but not absolutely essential
• Self-starter, effective when working on own initiative
• Accurate, with an exceptional eye for detail
• A confident communicator, adept at building strong and productive relationships with team members, suppliers and customers alike
• Strong numeracy skills
• Highly proficient computer skills (e.g. MS Office)
• Similar industry or placement experience would be an advantage
