Our Client is a leading supplier to key high street brands. We are recruiting a Fabric Technologist to work alongside the product development team advising on fabric standards, and procedures, sustainability, compliance and care labelling.
The position is full time and hybrid working with 3 to 4 days a week in the office
Sustainability experience and an understanding of Retailer sustainability goals is essential for this role.
Responsibilities:
• Providing fabric technical support to internal team and customers
• Assess proposed fabrics are fit for purpose at the product development stage
• Ensure fabric is quality managed to meet quality standards on time following critical paths
• Advise fabric suppliers of all required standards updating details as necessary
• Record and assess test results of all fabric qualities ensuring they meet customers requirements
• In the event that test results are below the required standard, manage solutions to improve
• Record all test results and report them to customers on fabric submissions, extranet systems or manually as required
• Confirm care labels including wash care instructions and compositions
• Assess and manage colour continuity
• Set standards, advise and manage fabric procedure through the garment factory
• Manage testing costs and maintain relationships with testing labs
• Manage REACH & chemical compliance testing and procedures
• Manage BCI cotton platform
• Promote continuous improvement in quality management systems
• Implement sustainability initiatives
• Keep an ongoing record of faulty fabrics to review and improve with mills annually
Candidate should have:
In depth woven and knitted fabric production and testing process knowledge
• Confident in implementing robust and efficient fabric management systems
• Understanding and experience of sustainable fabric standards (Textile Exchange, BCI etc) and verification process
(scope certificates, transaction certificates etc)
• Informed on REACH regulations and other relevant global substances legislation
• Attention to detail, efficient and able to work calmly under pressure
• Previous experience working with M&S, Next, SGS/Interlink systems is desirable
• Able to work alone remotely and communicate with colleagues and clients confidently
• Experience working in or visiting fabric manufacturers
