Garment Technologist - Luxury Baby and Childrenswear

We have a lovely role for an experienced Childrenswear Technologist with a leading Brand. Responsibilities include:

Product Development

• Work closely with Designers to produce technical briefs for suppliers/vendors to interpret the

required look or effect of products being developed.

• Influence the required look by technically interpreting the design needs and ensure that manufacturers can obtain the desired results through product construction and machinery available within chosen factories.

• Ensure that sizing increments and grade rules for both Children’s and women’s products are correct for the customers.

• Use knowledge of traditional pattern cutting, to explain required characteristics of certain fits, styles or looks, so suppliers can understand requirements.

• Work with the team to ensure best fit is achieved helping to develop basic block patterns and samples for use during fit sessions to standardise fits and ease the process of developing new products.

• Communicate effectively with all parties (Designers, Buyers, suppliers, vendors, etc), using Product Briefs as official documentation, and ensuring that technical details, construction amendments, fit, finish, and safety/legal aspects are comprehensively detailed and understood by all recipients.

Sample Development

• Manage product fit/review sessions with Designers for SMS, pre-production & production samples, and be responsible for communicating review comments to supplier in time effective manner.

• Ensure clear communication with supplier on any technical issue, ensuring that samples are produced to required standards, resolving problems and providing clarity over requirements needed.

• Ensure follow agreed QA processes, meeting product standards, and optimising sample production.

• Resolve difficult issues and ensure that samples are prioritised in line with Critical Path requirements.

• Ensure pre-production samples are approved and Red sealed, with appropriate reference samples/briefs filed away as per the agreed Product Approval process. Request and review size sets as required.

• Review test reports against standard requirements, and discuss findings with supplier, ensuring that results are commercially acceptable. 

• Consider and advise on packaging and carton labelling, ensuring that product protection is adequate.

Bulk Product

• Ensure production samples are approved and Gold sealed, with appropriate reference samples/briefs sent to DC for delivery inspection, as per agreed Product Approval process.

• Identify products that require special attention at time of DC inspection and ensure checking requirements are scheduled and reported.

• Confirm adequate packaging protection, for transit and customer delivery, eliminating potential rework activity post DC receipt.

• Identify and agree commercial tolerances with Buyer, when issues are identified with bulk production in comparison to Red seals and ensure that QC Inspectors are briefed in advance of DC deliveries.

Wholesale/Quality control/Testing

• In collaboration with buying team, provide necessary information, samples, and history of problems to wholesale customers, so that targeted inspections are conducted.

• Liaise with the QA teams to ensure best in class quality is achieved.

• Ensure financial penalties and costs for reworking non-compliant products are levied against vendors/agents, and that agreement to rework products is agreed in advance.

• Debit notes relating to non-compliant products, must be raised as per Debit Note procedure.

Corporate Social responsibility

• The Technologist will be responsible for managing the factories used by the

Clothing Department and highlighting to leadership team any Ethical issues found.

Experience required

Candidate must have previous experience in a similar role working with Children's and babywear.

Salary

• Salary £30k

• Flexible working pattern depending on candidates experience
