Womenswear Technologist

Our Client, a premium on line Retailer of luxury Womenswear, based in West London, is recruiting a Garment Technologist. This is a full time position reporting to the Buying Director. This is a great opportunity to develop your career with a small but friendly and professional team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the fit and quality of the Jersey range and selected woven categories from pre-production through to production
  • Working with design to create technical packs for proto designs 
  • Lead fit sessions alongside design to assess and improve fit, make and quality of garments 
  • Instruct factories regarding fit, make and quality and finalising specs including grading via electronic workbooks
  • Raise all grading specifications
  • Assess risk factors by checking fabric test reports at briefing stage and working alongside buying and design to suggest appropriate solutions
  • Where necessary conduct factory visits to carry out quality inspections, reviewing any manufacturing issues with the factories 
  • Measure and prepare fit samples for weekly fit sessions 
  • Work alongside buying to ensure styles are sealed within the agreed timescales of the critical path 
  • Ensure returns rates applicable to fit and quality are within company agreed metrics
  • Working closely with marketing to ensure online copy reflects accurate garment care instructions and fabric compositions 
  • Arranging Skype / calls / physical trips to the manufacturer when necessary 
  • Collaborate with stores and customer care teams to understand customer fit and quality feed back 
  • Maintain block library and ensure successful legacy fits are consistent 
  • Ensure supplier manual is regularly updated with quality standards and procedures 


Essential skills and technical knowledge:

  • Relevant experience as a Womenswear Garment Technologist ideally from a premium luxury background
  • Excellent understanding of patterns and construction 
  • Obsession for quality and attention to detail 
  • Proficient computer skills including excel 
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with the internal team and suppliers / factories via skype and overseas travel
  • Ability to instruct and check AQL reports from suppliers 
  • Interpreting and guiding design / buying on fabric technical reports
