Temporary Senior Product Technologist

Our Client, a highly successful Womenswear Brand has a 6 month vacancy for Senior Product Technologist to cover Accessories, (gloves, scarves, hats), and some Footwear and Home product. Expertise in all products is not essential and Garment Technologists with a good  multi product knowledge and some experience of Accessories will be considered. 

 Role Objectives

  • To work with the Technical & Compliance Manager to deliver a range of products ensuring design integrity, quality, fit, performance, safety and consistency in line with departmental strategy to achieve agreed sales and profit target
  • To be a key member of the Technical team, working with Buying, Design, Marketing and Sales (wholesale & retail), Graphic Design and Creative Director to ensure successful product
  • To adhere strictly to the Buying Calendar and Critical Path
  • Mentor assistant product technologist in development and skills
  • To take a more senior approach in the team, standing in for Head of Technical when required and using experience to support the other members of the team

Main Tasks and Key Areas of Work include

  • To follow product from Design hand over, through sample development, to production ex factory, in line with agreed range plan, target price and Critical Path
  • Develop product from initial design handover
  • Create product specification sheets
  • Fit and grade products
  • Ongoing risk assessment of products through development phase
  • Update specification sheets from concept to production stage
  • Approval of development and pre-production samples and approval to ship
  • Advise on final in-house quality control checks

Product Development

  • Work closely with Design, using expertise to utilise new/forthcoming technical advances and keep ahead of the competition
  • Work with Design and Buying to identify and develop new fabrics
  • Attend fitting sessions/product reviews with Designer and Buyer, contributing technical perspective for all products
  • With Design and Buyer, approve each product ensuring it is correct for fabric/yarn, style, and aesthetics, fit and trim – at all stages of the development process


  • To ensure legal and safety requirements are met for all products, ensure they are tested, where required, and meet all levels of EU/global standards
  • To conduct risk analysis and due diligence on all products
  • To ensure all products are “fit for purpose”, with relevant test results, for fabric, garments/product Construction, accessories, etc
  • Maintain key blocks and assess / update in response to customer needs or design direction
  • Review and analyse return rates on monthly basis for all products, feedback to Senior Management team and provide solutions to reduce the level of returns

Supplier Liaison

  • Support the Buying team in approving new suppliers
  • Communicate all product requirements to the suppliers in a clear and consistent manner
  • Attend supplier/factory visits as required, complete quality and production audits, where necessary
  • Build good working relationships with sourcing/production agents, suppliers, licences and ensure effective communication

Quality Control

  • Ensure the final product meets highest quality and safety standards and reflects the integrity of Client’s values
  • Contribute to the Quality Control process, ensuring that production stock is checked and approved, in line with the agreed Critical Path
  • Assess any issues highlighted at the QC check, propose solutions to the Head of Technical
  • Support Head of Technical in recall or faulty/dangerous product, in line with the Recall Policy
