The Client, a world class Retailer, based in the West Midlands, is looking for a Junior Fabric and Trim Innovator to join the Fabric Innovation team
The Junior Fabric and Trim Innovator will support the fabric innovation team to deliver Fabric and Trim Innovation to drive the Brand Design Strategy. Delivering newness and trend advice to drive profit and aim to increase market share growth across all relevant clothing departments.
Working 12-18 months in advance of design, the Junior Fabric and Trim Innovator will research,
forecast and develop all relevant fabrics and trims to drive new product development, along with supporting the Design team to improve quality and keep the Brand relevant.
In conjunction with the fabric and trim innovator, the Junior Fabric & Trim Innovator will provide the Design, Buying and Merchandise teams with fabric and trim recommendations across all clothing categories that improve profitability through more effective direct sourcing and the appropriate consolidation of fabrics and trims.
Fabric Trends – Have a good awareness of fabric trends across the product range
Fabric and Trim knowledge – Understand advanced technical materials and textile techniques including fibres, yarns, knit and woven fabrications, printing, dyeing and finishing
Fabric development – Ability to develop fabrics with partner mills and suppliers based on briefs with specified performance, aesthetic and commercial requirements
Fabric testing – Extensive experience in evaluating fabric performance to ensure developments meet performance standards provided by the technical team and customer expectations
Fabric Compliance – Work with the Technical manager to ensure compliance to Brand requirements
Mill Evaluation – Ensure existing and new mills are evaluated and compliant to Brand requirements
Fabric Reference Library management - Maintain a library of all core and new fabric/trims for reference.
Garment Knowledge – Knowledge of the product creation process and apparel business. Some expertise in garment construction and extensive working knowledge of factories (Europe and Asia)
Sustainability - Knowledge of sustainable and environmental textile policies

Has a good awareness for fabric innovation and trend and can interpret fabric into garments
Solid technical understanding of fabric construction and performance
Has an expert sourcing knowledge of the fabric and trim supply chain
Being open to experimenting with new ideas that have not been tried in the industry before
Strong commercial acumen and negotiating skills
Strong communication skills across cultures
Demonstrate credibility with a range of stakeholders, displaying a broad range of influencing styles
Ability to travel on regular basis to fabric shows and mills and suppliers.
