My Client, a High End Womenswear Design Brand based in East London is looking to recruit a Garment Technologist to cover a 9 month maternity cover. The position may move to a permanent role after the completion of the 9 month cover dependent on the candidate and business needs. The position reports into the Brand Manager.  Key responsibility of the Garment Technologist position is to ensure all samples and production conform to the standard required. This is to include fit, make, materials and sizing.

Skills and Experience required
 

  • Relevant experience within technical or product development role
  • Experience of attending fittings and recording & sending fit comments.
  • Basic understanding of pattern cutting, good knowledge of fabrics, technical components and sewing techniques.
  • Experienced in working in a fast paced environment, ensuring post show critical path is honoured.
  • Experience within a luxury womenswear brand with fashion week showtime experience is preferred.
  • Experience of dealing with offshore suppliers.
  • An understanding of complex garment construction, print and embellishment.
  • Tenacious, assertive and determined attitude with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good negotiation, organisational and problem solving skills.
  • Dedicated, hard working and committed person willing to invest long term.

Responsibilities of the Garment Technologist

  • Maintain and agree standard measurements records and measuring specs for all garment types
  • As the supplier base expands, ensure measurements are consistent across sourcing base.
  • Undertake regular competitor research to ensure fit and sizing is competitive
  • Define and maintain grading and sizing rules for each garment type 
  • Along with the Assistant Designer, ensure all specs are clear and any measurement requests are consistent with the standard measurements.
  • Measure all samples to ensure they conform to the size spec
  • Flag any variance in sizes prior to fit meeting and ensure factory is informed where appropriate
  • Plan and organise all fit meetings including booking models, sending diary invites etc.
  • Attend and run all post show sample and pre production fittings to ensure sample conforms to the Designer’s vision and is of the correct quality
  • Attend all pre show fit meetings to ensure consistency and to aid understanding.
  • Record all fit comments and ensure they are fed back to the factory to ensure any future sample or production reflects the changes from the meeting
  • Support the factory where there are make or construction queries on specific garments
  • Maintain sewing rules and make standards to ensure the factory understands the standards required to produce for the brand
  • Request, monitor and chase all post show samples.
  • Ensure all garments are sealed prior to the factory starting production
  • Support the factories to ensure all production issues and delays are kept to a minimum
  • Request, inspect and assess pre-production, top of production and shipment samples. Alert any issues that could impact delivery to the Brand Director.
  • Along with the Brand Director, deal with any quality issues and faulty garments to ensure delays are kept to a minimum
  • Report on quality, faults and production each season detailing each factories performance against target
  • Assess any consumer and wholesale returns and ensure all recurring issues are addressed.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Brand Director.
