Garment Technologist

12 month fixed term contract

Our Client is looking for a Garment Technologist to join their expanding Technical team covering a wide remit of jersey, woven and knitted children’s & baby clothing, plus accessories.

This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract with the possibility of becoming a permanent role. 

You will ensure that the Client’s designs are executed to the highest quality and safety standards and to schedule.

All candidates with relevant experience from Assistant to Garment Technologist level will be considered

Depending on candidate’s level, Garment Technologist duties will include:

  • Owning specification packs, including grading specifications for childrenswear, risk assessment and compliance.

  • Dealing with Far East direct suppliers to ensure critical path is maintained. 

  • Measuring, fitting and commenting on fit samples in liaison with the designer and buyer.

  • Ensuring that all items adhere to British Safety Standards, international compliance where necessary and all labelling and packaging requirements.

  • Guiding junior members of the team.

  • Ensuring high quality detailing, trims and construction methods are used.

  • Sealing for production and checking shipment samples. 

  • Resolving quality or production issues and effecting change to mitigate future issues.

  • Ensuring all testing is actioned and approved effectively.

  • Commenting & developing on samples in liaison with the designer and buyer.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Experience as an Assistant or Garment Technologist with a Brand and/or Supplier, working directly with overseas factories.

  • Experience of developing children and infants clothing across a range of categories. 

  • Qualified with an appropriate NVQ or higher and relevant experience

  • Excellent verbal and written English plus strong communication skills and a keen eye for detail.

  • Comprehensively computer literate, with a good knowledge of Excel.

  • Be able to efficiently multi-task, be highly organised and work happily in a busy, whilst friendly, atmosphere

  • Experience in the development of clothing items through from design to shipment

  • Understanding of high quality lifestyle brand standards balanced with commercial needs
