This is a new role created to support the increasing requirements for product compliance.

Reporting to the Head of QA and Compliance the successful candidate will join a team of 8 , with 2 direct reports. We are looking for an experienced compliance expert, capable of navigating the complex framework of legislation, regulations, product and packaging requirements.

The role would suit candidates from the toy, home, gifting industries with a broad knowledge of prevailing UK and EU legislation and the skills to apply this knowledge to a wide variety of products.

Job Purpose

Working in the Quality Assurance team your role will be to manage the compliance of suppliers and products sold within our Client’s stores. You are responsible for managing the compliance processes from supplier on-boarding through to supplier performance management. The role will require you to deal with internal departments at all levels, partners and external suppliers.

You will be an experienced QA professional preferably with a with a toy industry background in compliance and possess a natural ability to communicate and articulate ideas clearly. The role requires a confident individual who possesses the ability to understand legislation, assess impact and propose action to mitigate risk to the business.

Knowledge of EU legislation, managing ERP schemes, packaging regulations, and digital passports is required.

Responsibilities

• Investigate new and pending changes to compliance legislation to assess and communicate impact to the business.

• Create, maintain and develop compliance regulatory tracker for the department.

• Deliver regulatory updates to the commercial and QA teams.

• Manage QA supplier on-boarding process and documentation through the Brand Risk Assessment; allocate suppliers/SKUS responsibility to the team.

• Manage current active supplier register, ensure all suppliers have completed and returned signed required documentation.

• Manage compliance data submission approvals: WEEE, batteries, packaging, plastic tax.

• Establish, implement and maintain documented processes and procedures for the department.

• Lead product issues weekly meetings and management of action.

• Product performance monitoring and decision making.

• Direct management of QA Compliance Specialist and Project Coordinator.

• Deliver training and support members of the QA team.

• Support the Head of QA & Compliance in with supplier management.

• Communication with suppliers in a timely, appropriate and professional manner.

• Encourage and demonstrate inclusivity and respect within teams and adhere to our code of conduct and people policies.

Skills & Experience

1. Intermediate/Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.

2. Ability to manage, lead, develop and coach a team.

3. Full UK, valid drivers licence.

4. Ability to read, understand and effectively summarise complex regulations, in a way that is relevant and appropriate for the intended audience.

5. Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

6. Love for problem-solving and working collaboratively.

7. Strong leadership skills.

8. Logical, calm, patient, and possess a strategic vision.

9. Relevant experience in a product compliance role, preferably within the toy industry.

10. Experience in line managing a team and developing and coaching team members.

11. Technical quality assurance or engineering qualification.

Our client offers the following flexible working pattern:

  • Regular working hours of 8.00am – 5.00pm but with flexibility between core hours 7.30am – 9.30 am start and finish 4.30pm -6.30pm

  • Opportunity for an early finish on Friday, e.g. if starting at 8.00 am, finish at 3.00pm

  • 1 hour flexi hour – you can use this anytime during the week (e.g leave 1 hour earlier one day a week)

  • Working from home 6 days a month –  Fridays working from home (except 1 week in 6 for team rotation and office cover) The remainder of the allowance is Thursday (approximately every second Thursday WFH) Days can be changed with the agreement of team members
